DESCRIPTION:National Heritage Festival – Theme: Shared Stories\nOn Sunday\, 16th April\, Yarramalong’s natural\, cultural and indigenous shared stories will be stunningly reflected as part of this year’s National Heritage Festival\, through artworks\, live music and indigenous activities presented against the backdrop of 1890’s\nsandstone buildings and tree studded grounds at Yarramalong Old School in beautiful Yarramalong Valley. \nExplore the historic buildings to enjoy art\, history and culture…\nVisitors will have the opportunity to meander the historic buildings\, where works by multi-award winning local indigenous artists will be on display in the former school teacher’s cottage together with ceramics and botanical art. In the old stone classroom\, students from the the resident Darkinjung Barker School will be demonstrating history\nthey’ve learned about the school through artwork and stories on display \nAn important collaboration by the Valley’s two schools…\nVisitors can not only enjoy shared stories presented live on stage by both Darkinjung Barker and Wyong Creek Public School students\, they can also see an earlier collaboration from 2017 – a treasured exhibition of art and ceramics that will be on show in the school teacher’s cottage\, plus the opportunity to meet the very artists who guided the Valley’s children in this endeavour. \nShop\, enjoy fine food and settle down for a great concert…\nA selection of fine food\, beverages and craftwork from skilled artisans will be on offer during the event as well as a delicious barbecue being run by Wyong Creek Public School. \nFrom 11.40\, evocative musical and cultural entertainment will take place at the shady outdoor stage\, starting with Darkinjung children\, who will perform on stage alongside\nLibby Keating with traditional instruments and a song about how the old school was saved and their role there. Wyong Creek Public School students will follow with a shared story about their school told through narrative\, poetry and song. \nThe afternoon’s entertainment will then feature a line-up of popular local musicians including Shane Shepherd\, Must Twang Sally (Libby Keating\, Alan Hargreaves and Rob Wilding) and Peter Healey’s riveting funky blues and alt country band the Rhythm\nRiders. \nAn initiative of the Yarramalong School Community Centre Inc…\nPresented by the group which campaigned for years to save the historic site as a Crown Lands Reserve and Community Centre\, the event will run from 10.00am to 5pm and admission is free. Donations on the day will be welcomed however\, with all proceeds going to Yarramalong School Community Centre Inc.
