We are thrilled to announce the winners of the 2025 Yarramalong Valley Scarecrow Competition!
This year’s entries have once again showcased the amazing creativity, imagination, and humour of our community. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and voted — your efforts have made this event a true celebration of local spirit.
And now, for the winners in each category:
Bring Back the Bees
We are delighted to announce that the People’s Choice Award goes to the striking “Bring Back the Bees”!
The creators shared:
“The arrival of the varroa mite devastated bee populations across our Valley, threatening local ecosystems, gardens, and food production. Our Scarecrow Bee stands as a symbol of hope, resilience, and our ongoing mission to bring the bees back, stronger than ever.”
This powerful entry captured the hearts of the community, serving as both a beautiful creation and a reminder of the importance of protecting our environment.
Bumble Hill “Screw Crow”
Rolling into first place for this year’s Topical Award is the witty and wonderfully pun-filled “Screw Crow.” Complete with tyre, screws, and plenty of roadside character, this scarecrow had everyone in stitches. A clever creation that really nailed the brief!
Bloomin’ Plastic
This year’s Traditional Award goes to “Bloomin’ Plastic,” a scarecrow standing proudly among a field of native flowers crafted entirely from discarded plastics. The striking contrast highlights both the beauty of nature and the lasting impact of human waste. A thoughtful entry that blends classic scarecrow charm with a meaningful environmental message.
The Banana Band
Bringing music, mischief, and plenty of laughs, “The Banana Band” struck the right chord to win this year’s Humorous Award. Featuring Minions Bob, Kevin, and Stuart rocking out with their instruments on a giant banana stage, this scarecrow band had everyone smiling and singing along. A playful and joyful entry that truly entertained!
Each of this year’s winning scarecrows captured the spirit of the Valley in their own special way — from the heartfelt message of hope in “Bring Back the Bees” to the playful pun of “Screw Crow,” the environmental reminder of “Bloomin’ Plastic,” and the laughter and joy brought by “The Banana Band.”
We extend our warmest congratulations to all of our winners! Your creativity, imagination, and effort have once again filled the Valley with colour, fun, and community spirit.
A big thank you to everyone who entered, visited, voted, and supported the competition — and to our generous sponsors for helping make it all possible. We can’t wait to see what you dream up for next year’s scarecrows!
